Goddess Isis

Introduction: She's More Than Ancient Myth

Isis isn’t just a distant figure tucked away in ancient myth. She is a living and fiercely powerful force you can connect with. The great goddess of magic and transformation, her energy is as alive and relevant today as it was thousands of years ago in the temples of Egypt.

Working with Isis isn’t about rigid worship or following old dogma. It’s about stepping into the energy of a universal archetype. An eternal pattern of divine energy that awakens us to our own healing. Introduces us to our own strength. And helps us find a wholeness that we may have been missing.

For me, she’s been more than a guide. She’s been an anchor. When life felt uncertain, she was the one presence I could always depend on. She shows up in nearly every reading and energy session I do.  Sometimes active, sometimes quietly protective but always present. With her by my side, I’ve witnessed doors open and possibilities I never thought existed.

When I speak of Isis, I’m invoking more than legend.  I’m calling forth the eternal presence of a goddess who carries the mystery of wholeness within her.  She embodies the truth that no matter how fragmented or scattered we feel, there is always a path back to ourselves. Her energy calls us to pick up our broken pieces, stitch them together with love and rise stronger than before. To truly see this aspect of Isis, we must look at the story that has carried her essence across millennia. The story of Isis and Osiris.

The Story of Wholeness: Isis and Osiris

Osiris has been known as the first King of Egypt. Serving alongside his wife and sister, Isis, he brought civilization to all of mankind. Teaching how to sow and harvest crops, establishing laws and moral order and, in the end, taught about the cycle of life. That death was not the end but rather a transformation. Along with Osiris and Isis, there were two other siblings, and couple, Set and Nephthys. Set became jealous of Osiris. Why? There are several reasons that he could have been jealous. One is that Osiris was the first-born son of the gods Geb (Earth) and Nut (Sky), that made him the rightful heir to rule. Some also think that Set was jealous of the love that Isis had for Osiris because he didn’t have that same love with his wife Nephthys.  It could also be that he was jealous of Osiris’ popularity and authority, leaving him feeling “less than” his brother. While Osiris represented fertility, order and life, Set embodied chaos, barrenness (desert) and sterility. This vast difference between the two and Set’s jealousy caused him to plot to overthrow Osiris by any means necessary.

The common belief is that Set built a beautiful box, coffin, made to Osiris’ exact dimensions and offered it as a gift to anyone that could fit inside perfectly. Several tried and didn’t get the gift because they didn’t fit. It took a while to convince Osiris to try it out but when he did, Set and his accomplices slammed the lid shut, nailed it and tossed it into the Nile. Isis, along with Nephstys, went in search of her husband’s body with the intention of reassembling his life force and giving him the rites his body needed. She looked tirelessly and finally found his body in Byblos, known today as Lebanon, and brought it back to Egypt. She hid his body so she could perform magic spells and rites to be able to restore him enough to be whole again. Not just physically but spiritually. Set finds the body and, enraged that Isis was restoring him, cut Osiris’ body into pieces and scattered them throughout Egypt to prevent him from ever being whole again.

Isis and Nephysys set out to recover the remains of Osiris’ body yet again. With her fierce determination and divine magic skill, Isis gathered the pieces from throughout Egypt finding all but the phallus. With the help of her sister, Isis breathes life back into Osiris and fashions a replacement phallus through magic to make him whole once more. In this restored state of life, Osiris and Isis conceive a child (Horus) before Osiris leaves the land of the living and becomes the ruler of the Duat (the Egyptian underworld) where he now presides over the “weighing of the heart” ceremony. Which we will go over in a future blog post. The acts of Isis are an ultimate display of her love, power and mastery over fragmentation.

How does this fit into what I am trying to say? Spiritually, this story isn’t just about resurrection. It’s a metaphor for how we, as humans, can become whole again. We go through this life enduring all the trials and tribulations that can break us into pieces. Joy, confidence, strength, even our identity can become scattered throughout our lives to the ends of the earth. Isis’ journey teaches us that even when we feel scattered, broken and unable to feel complete, that we have the power to gather those pieces and become whole again. Isis’ energy can help us find the parts of ourselves that we thought had been lost forever and reassemble our life force.

Invoking Isis: Healing, Protection and Sacred Magic

Even though her stories go back thousands of years, Isis’s energy is anything but ancient history. She’s here. Now. You don’t need to stand in a temple and recite old prayers to connect with her. You can feel her in meditation, during ritual or even in those quiet moments when you just stop and ask for her presence. She shows up.

Healing the Fragmented Self with Goddess Isis

One of the most powerful things about Isis is the way she helps us put ourselves back together. In the story above, she literally reassembles Osiris piece by piece. Combing the land, gathering what had been scattered and refusing to give up even when it seemed impossible. That same energy comes through when we call on her in our own lives.

We all go through moments where we feel like parts of us are missing. Maybe it’s heartbreak, maybe it’s old wounds we never dealt with, maybe it’s the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden away for anyone to ever see. Those pieces of us can feel like they’ve been lost forever. But Isis reminds us that nothing is truly gone. Just like she did for Osiris, she helps us find what’s been scattered and weave it into the whole of who we are meant to be.

Her way of healing isn’t about pretending the brokenness never happened. It’s about showing us that the cracks and the missing pieces that are a part of our story. And when we bring them back into ourselves with love, we don’t just go back to who we were before. We become something even stronger. Whole, but in a new way.

Protection and Divine Alchemy

Isis isn’t just about healing. She is also a very fierce protector. If you’ve ever felt her wings wrap around you, then you understand exactly what I mean. There have been times that I have been in the lowest of places, wishing and hoping that something would come through to just make me feel loved and protected. She will come in and I feel her wrapping her wings around me in such a loving and protective way that is gives me hope to continue going forward. She gives this deep sense of safety like nothing can touch you and calling on her is a powerful way to shield yourself from negativity or harmful energy. But, she also teaches us how to stand firm in our own power. Showing us that she will always be there but we need to trust in ourselves and make the changes we need in our lives in order to move forward in our highest timeline.

Then there’s her magic. Her alchemy. Isis has a way of taking the raw material of our lives; our struggles, our doubts, our pain and transforming it into something meaningful. This is what makes her the goddess of alchemy. She doesn’t just “fix” things, she changes their very nature. Grief becomes wisdom, fear becomes courage, uncertainty becomes trust.

When you bring her into your practice, you’re stepping into that process of transformation with her. Maybe you’re speaking an affirmation that feels flat on its own, but when you invite Isis in, it carries weight and you feel the truth of it sinking into your body. Maybe you’re doing a ritual to release old patterns and her presence shifts the whole atmosphere, giving the act a depth and power you couldn’t generate alone. Even in something as simple as meditation, she can turn a wandering mind into a moment of clarity that feels like gold.

Isis reminds us that real alchemy isn’t about snapping our fingers and forcing the world to change overnight. It’s not about bending life to our will. It’s about entering into partnership with the divine, allowing transformation to unfold in harmony with a greater plan.  It’s about working with the energy that’s already present and then elevating it. She magnifies our intention and shows us how to align with the divine flow. Her magic is both fierce and tender, reminding us that real gold is not just what we manifest but, who we become in the process. Her alchemy is practical and deeply human. She teaches us that every challenge we face can become fuel for transformation if we’re willing to work with it.

Creating Your Sacred Space: A Simple Isis Altar & Affirmations

You do not need a single special item or a formal ritual to connect with the divine. The energy of Goddess Isis can be felt and invoked anywhere. In your car, at your desk or while walking in nature. A true connection comes from a place of open hearted intention.

However, for those who wish to deepen their practice, creating a sacred space or an altar can be a powerful tool. An altar acts as a physical anchor for your intentions and a beautiful reminder of her presence in your life, helping you to focus your energy and make your practice feel more real.

Creating Your Simple Isis Altar

Find a small, clean space on a shelf, table or windowsill. You can cover it with a blue or gold cloth to honor her colors. Then, add a few of these items, each with its own symbolic meaning, to create your sacred space:

  • An Image or Statue of Isis: This serves as a focal point and a physical representation of her energy. It can remind you of her presence as a divine mother and queen.

  • The Ankh: The "key of life" is one of the most well-known Egyptian symbols and is often held by Isis. Placing an ankh on your altar connects your space to her power to grant eternal life and healing.

  • The Sun Disk and Horns: This headdress, which you'll see in many images of Isis, is a symbol of her connection to the heavens and her role as a powerful, loving mother. You can represent this with a small round object or even a crescent moon shape.

  • A Bowl of Water or a Lotus Flower: Water is a symbol of purification and life, while the lotus flower represents divine resurrection and purity. These items connect your altar to the life-giving and transformative aspects of Isis.

  • Blue and Gold Candles: These colors represent her wisdom (blue) and divine power (gold). Lighting them can help you focus your energy and invite her presence.

Simple Affirmations for Your Practice

Once you have your sacred space (whether it's an altar or simply a quiet corner in your mind), take a moment to sit with your intention. Light your candles if you have them and close your eyes. When you feel ready, speak these affirmations aloud or in your mind. Use the ones that resonate with you most:

  • "I am gathering the fragmented pieces of my soul and becoming whole."

  • "I invoke the healing light of Isis to bring peace and wisdom into my life."

  • "I am guided, protected and loved by the divine energy of the Goddess."

  • "I am creating my life from a place of wholeness and integrity."
